 Key figures provide the quickest overview. At the same time, however, they can only ever be incomplete. Of course, we have more to offer than around 99,000 jobs subject to social insurance contributions and a stable unemployment rate of around 3 percent. The appeal of our attractive companies—but also of our region as a place to live—is reflected in two other figures, for example: 19,600 people commute out of the region, compared with 23,600 who commute in.

How attractive our region is for companies is reflected in other key figures: almost every seventh employee has a university degree and every fifth employee works in a knowledge-based profession. Almost 100% broadband coverage does the rest. The ideal location conditions are also reflected in a start-up intensity of almost 15 percent. This dynamic is primarily driven by young people, who make up almost two thirds of the working population.
