Let's enjoy FD together.

City and country

You don't have to choose here: The regional center of Fulda is not a big city, and our communities are not sleepy villages. From health resorts to smart cities, each community has its own individual character. But all of them convince with lively customs and genuine cohesion. And because we also have the right infrastructure, you can look forward to short distances - both analog and digital.

Ecological jewel

Welcome to Germany's largest star park! In daylight, however, there is much more to discover in the UNESCO Rhön Biosphere Reserve: The former death strip of the inner-German border has been Europe's largest biotope since reunification. All around it stretches a unique cultural landscape as the perfect vacation region. Logically, the Rhön also has its own fan club - with 24,000 members. And Fulda? This is where the State Garden Show and the German Garden Culture Trail were invented.

Real culture (ur)factors

The Hochstift Fulda once played an essential role in the invention of the Spätlese. We love a hearty fair with Zwibbelsploatz and make the Genussfestival in the castle courtyard a test tradition. You've already guessed: with us, food is a real cult(ur)factor. We also like to combine that with a bit of ambition: every summer, Fulda becomes Musical City. The concerts on the cathedral square, the Long Night of Museums, the art week in the painter village Kleinsassen or the radome concerts on the Wasserkuppe are just a few highlights in the cultural calendar.

Family life
made easy

Young families feel right at home here. The childcare options are diverse and are supplemented by an impressive number of childminders. You can even borrow grandmas and grandpas from us! Finding and practicing a hobby is also no problem thanks to the dedicated work of our clubs for young people. Vacation programs and recreational activities, meeting places and youth centers are available in many communities - in Fulda there is even a children's academy with a walk-in heart waiting for little explorers.

More reasons for the region

Active recreation

There are hardly any couch potatoes or sports fans in our region - but that's no surprise considering the range of activities on offer. More than 300 clubs not only offer all kinds of sports, we also have spectacularly colorful customs to offer throughout the winter with the Fastnacht (Foaset). Three Hessian long-distance bicycle routes cross in Fulda and on the Wasserkuppe lies the cradle of gliding and a great winter sports area. As a real wind hot spot, you will also find a paradise for paragliding and snowkiting.

Health

As far as doctors are concerned, we are well supplied in terms of quantity and quality. The Health Network East Hesse is about exchange and mutual support. Physicians at Klinikum Fulda are regularly voted among the best doctors in Germany by Focus magazine. We give everything! For the world's youngest premature babies and self-determined living into old age - with cross-generational networks, strong initiatives and extensive research under the health focus at Fulda University of Applied Sciences.

Education for all

What begins with reading aloud in the children's room ends with the diverse offerings of our adult education centers. In between, the district maintains 66 schools, plus 23 municipal and 14 private schools. Among them are 3 comprehensive and 11 special schools plus one boarding school. 9,600 students attend the university in the urban area. Nearby you will find Germany's first Azubikampus - a residence for young people aged 16 to 27.

Here tastes good

Maybe you already have a rough idea. But let's make it very clear once again: Where nature, knowledge transfer and lifestyle meet - good, healthy food is not far away. In addition to our regional products from traditional artisan farms, we score points at the university in the food science department with the development of vegetarian and vegan meat alternatives.

Why
Fulda region?

Love of one's homeland is very important to the people of eastern Hesse. It doesn't matter whether they were born here, left and came back, or whether fate or a happy coincidence brought them to the Fulda region. Here you can listen to them rave!

Christina Langsdorf

passed up career opportunities in the Rhine-Main metropolis

"I had become so accustomed to the region and found the quality of life simply unbeatable. I was fascinated by the Rhön, where you can really let your eyes wander."

Tobias Wingenfeld

Rhönhof Wingenfeld in Hofbieber

"We market our products directly at the Rhönhof in the farm store. But we also travel to Frankfurt every week, because our sausages are extremely popular on Konstablerwache and Schillerstraße."

Martin Kremer

Head of Administrative Office Biosphere Reserve Rhön

"For me, the good life includes not only the baroque joie de vivre, but also the good artisan food and, last but not least, the experience of the landscape in the "Rhöngebirge".

Fan Bo Meng

Marberzell table tennis pro and national player

"I enjoy the peace and quiet when I'm in Fulda. There is less traffic here, people are nice and helpful, and there is nothing negative to hear. That's very different in big cities. "

Chris de Burgh

World star and Fulda fan

"I've been all over Germany, but the atmosphere in Fulda with its old town, market, old historic buildings always captivates me!"

Dr. Hans Unbehauen

Impulse generator (With each other - For each other)

"Each of us has resources. You have to strengthen these and not focus on the deficits. This way of thinking is very conducive to mental health and social cohesion."
